California Miniature
Schnauzer Rescue
—Rescued Dogs In New Homes 2019

California Miniature Schnauzer Rescue re-homed about 30 Miniature Schnauzers and other dogs during 2018. In addition, we helped pull, transport and/or vet many more dogs for out of town rescues. Most of these were dogs who were about to be euthanized if the out of town rescues had not agreed to take them.

We thank our volunteers, our fosters, our donors, and our partner rescue groups. Without their wonderful help, many of those dogs would have died instead of enjoying their lives in great new homes.

26 Dogs Adopted in 2019

Rescue Schnauzer Tony

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Tony Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Tony

Tony is a 4 year old Miniature Schnauzer. He weighs 13 lbs.

Tony is friendly with people, children and other dogs. While he likes everyone, he seems to prefer men. He is not cat aggressive, but tends to ignore them.

Tony is housebroken. He is both pad and outside trained, but prefers doing his business outside. Tony has had some command training.

Tony LOVES going for walks, but doesn't mind being a couch potato. He's not a lap dog, preferring to do his own thing, but appreciates a scratch on his backside.

Tony appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and will be up to date on vaccinations before placement.

Tony was adopted on November 4, 2019 by a family from San Jose.

Rescue Schnauzer Bradley

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Bradley

Bradley is a 2 year old Standard Schnauzer. He weighs about 27 lbs. We rescued Bradley from the Bonita shelter near San Diego.

Bradley was scared and snappy at the shelter. As soon as we got him out, he calmed down and became a friendly guy.

Bradley appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

Thanks to our friends at Big Bones Canine Rescue in Colorado for finding Bradley a new home.

Rescue Schnauzer Sasha

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Sasha Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Sasha

Sasha is a 2 to 3 year old Miniature Schnauzer. She weighs about 6.7 kg (14.7 lbs). Sasha was rescued from a high kill shelter in Daegu, Korea just hours prior she was scheduled to be euthanized.

Sasha is friendly, housetrained, and gets along with kids and with other dogs. We do not know how she is with cats.

Sasha appears to be in good health. She is spayed and current on vaccinations. We will have her microchipped before placement.

Sasha was adopted on October 26, 2019 by a couple from Mission Viejo. Sasha joins a Schnauzer mix named Truman. We expect they wii soon be fast friends.

Rescue Schnauzer Pete

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Pete

Pete is a very, sweet white Miniature Schnauzer who is about 5 years old. We rescued Pete from the Inland Valley shelter in Pomona. Pete weighs about 22 lbs.

Pete is a fairly quiet dog, but loves to “scratch out” with abandon after he potties. He seems to get along well with everyone, human or canine. We have not had him around cats yet.

We had Pete's teeth cleaned. No extractions were needed. Pete had a large growth on his butt, which we had removed. We also had blood work done. According to the vet, the results of Pete's blood work were “perfect.” Pete is in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Pete was adopted on October 1, 2019 by a gentleman from Potter Valley, CA, who adopted a male named Tommy from us a few years ago. Pete and Tommy are quickly becoming fast friends.

Rescue Schnauzer Terrier Puppy Marlon Brandog

Photo of Rescue Terrier Puppy Marlon Photo of Rescue Terrier Puppy Marlon

Marlon came to us from the Moreno Valley shelter where he had been left with a broken leg. Specifically, his femur was broken mid-shaft and also at the head where it enters the socket joint. Fortunately, our wonderful surgeon, Dr. Balfour, was able to repair the damage and Marlon is now as good as new. Marlon weighed 12 lbs on intake at the shelter but was underweight. He probably now weighs about 13 lbs. The shelter aged Marlon at 4 years old, but he appears to us to be between 1 and 2 years old.

Marlon is as sweet a dog as exists anywhere on the planet. He loves people and he loves other dogs.

Marlon is in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Marlon was adopted by a lady in Sebastopol with a female Chihuahua / Miniature Pinscher mix. They have 3 acres of fenced yard in which to play.

Rescue Schnauzer Brenda

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Nala Bear Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Nala Bear

Brenda is a very sweet black Miniature Schnauzer who we rescued from the Bonita shelter (south east of San Diego). She is about 2 years old and weighs about 14 lbs.

Brenda had virtually no hair on here when we rescued her and her skin was thick and flaky. Our vet determined that Brenda had ringworm. And so started a course of oral antifungal medication and every-other-day bathing in medicated shampoo followed by ringising with foul-smelling lime sulphur lime.

Brenda's coat finally grew back and she is beautiful now.

Brenda appears to be in good health. She is microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Brenda was adopted on September 21, 2019 by a gentleman from Reno who adopted Abby from us about 7 years ago. Brenda already has a visit to Phoenix planned to visit with her adopter's daughter and granddaughter.

Rescue Schnauzer Nala Bear

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Nala Bear Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Nala Bear

Nala Bear is a senior female Miniature Schnauzer. She came to Animal Rescue of Fresno (ARF) because her owner was no longer able to care for her.

Nala would likely be best as an only dog. She does not get along with cats.

Nala Bear is a character! She likes being called Nala Bear. She walks on a leash nicely and really enjoys her walk time. She sits, shakes paws, dances, for treats—she LOVES treats. On the down side, she snores, she is scared of loud noises like fireworks and gun shots, and she can be very stubborn.

Nala Bear appears to be in good health. She is spayed , microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Nala Bear was adopted on July 26, 2019. Thanks very much to our friends at Animal Rescue of Fresno (ARF) for finding Nala Bear her new home.

Rescue Schnauzer Rufus

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Rufus Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Rufus

Rufus, a very sweet boy, was rescued by a lady who owns a horse ranch. Unfortunately, she could not keep him. Rufus was just mildly curious about the cat, but he was way too rambunctious for the ranch ducks and chickens. Sadly, the ranch owner concluded it would be best to find him a less fowl home.

Rufus loves to be near people and cuddle. He does very well with children. He walks well on a leash.

Rufus was adopted in later July 2019 by a couple who had previously adopted through CMSR. They are thrilled to have Rufus. He has joined another male Schnauzer in his new home.

Rescue Schnauzer Cody

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Cody

Cody, a neutered 5 year old Miniature Schnauzer,  was adopted on June 28, 2019 by a couple in Mount Shasta.  The adopters have no other dogs right now, but have adopted before.

Cody was surrendered by his loving owner who found Cody to be a little too energetic.  He will have a big back yard and plenty of squirrels to chase in his new home.

Rescue Schnauzer Mix Jason

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mix Jason Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mix Jason

Jason is a very sweet approximately 1 year old black and tan Miniature Schnauzer mix, who we rescued from the high-kill Changwon shelter in Korea. He is a little guy, weighing about 11 lbs.

Jason is playful, friendly with people and other dogs, and LOVES Jenny (who looks like she probably is his littermate). We think it would be best to place them together if at all possible.

Jason appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and has had his teeth cleaned.

Jason and Jenny were adopted together on June 22, 2019 by a couple from San Bruno. The husband is retired so they will have someone home with them most of the time—and there are no other dogs in the house with whom they have to share their adopters' attention.

Rescue Schnauzer Mix Jenny

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mix Jenny Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mix Jenny

Jenny is a very sweet approximately 1 year old black and tan Miniature Schnauzer mix, who we rescued from the high-kill Changwon shelter in Korea. She is a little smaller than her brother, Jason, weighing about 9 lbs.

Jenny is playful, friendly with people and other dogs (though a bit more reserved than is Jason), and LOVES Jason (who looks like he probably is her littermate). We think it would be best to place them together if at all possible.

Jenny appears to be in good health. She is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and has had her teeth cleaned.

Rescue Schnauzer Max

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Max Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Max

Max is a very, very nice Miniature Schnauzer who is about 10 years old. Max was surrendered to us by a lady who had taken him in when his former owner moved to New Mexico and said she was unable to take Max. Max weighs about 18 lbs.

Max is pretty lively for his age. He gets along well with everyone. He wanted to greet everyone—human, canine and feline—at the vet's office.

Max had a large growth on his back which we had removed. (We had it biopsied and it was benign.) We also had a dental and blood work done. Max's blood values were great for a dog his age. He had a few teeth removed during his dental. We just had him groomed and the groomers remarked on how well behaved he was.

Max is in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Max was adopted on June 13, 2019 by a couple from Bakersfield who previously adopted Rufo and Reese from us. Rufo came with the adopters to check out Max and decided Max would be a great buddy. Hopefully all 3 dogs will enjoy many years of happiness together.

Rescue Schnauzer Livia (now Luna)

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Livia Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Livia

Livia is a sweet 3 year old Miniature Schnauzer who we rescued from the Stanislaus County shelter with a fractured pelvis.

We provided crate rest for Livia while her pelvis healed and then had her spayed.

Livia was adopted on May 27, 2019 by one of our longtime foster families in Napa, CA., who renamed her Luna. Thank you Tracy and Mark Zerba for providing Luna a wonderful home

Rescue Schnauzer Mix Corinne

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mix Corrine Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mix Corinne

Corinne is a very sweet approximately 1-1/2 year old tan Miniature Schnauzer mix, who we rescued from the Chula Vista shelter. Corinne weighs about 15 lbs.

Corinne is a quiet but friendly girl who gets along well with people and with other dogs. We do not know how she is around cats since we don't have any cats to test her on.

Corinne had a broken scapula. We took her to our surgeon who said the scapula was healing well and that Corinne did not need any special treatment. He was correct. Corinne now runs and jumps as though she had never had an injury.

Corinne is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations. She is eating well.

Corinne was adopted on May 13, 2019 by husband and wife physicians from the Palm Springs area. Corinne joins a male Schnoodle, Winston, who was lonely without his companion, Penny, who passed away a few months ago. Corinne's adopters kindly made a donation to CMSR in memory of Penny.

Rescue Terrier Mix Tanto

Photo of Rescue Terrier Mix Tanto Photo of Rescue Terrier Mix Tanto

We rescued Tanto from the Corona shelter where he was taken when his owner died. Tanto is about 6 years old and weighs about 18 lbs.

We currently have Tanto with a trainer who has a record of success in socializing frightened dogs. Tanto gets along with other dogs. He can go to a home with another friendly dog, but would likely be best in a quiet home without children.

Tanto appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and current on his vaccinations.

Tanto was adopted in mid-April 2019, just in time to celebrate Easter or Passover in his new home. Thanks very much to A Home 4 Ever Rescue in Costa Mesa for finding Tanto his new home.

Rescue Schnauzer Fritz

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Fritz Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Fritz

Fritz is an outgoing Miniature Schnauzer who is about 8 years old. We rescued Fritz from the San Diego County shelter in Bonita. Fritz weighs about 18 lbs.

Rescue Wheaten Corey

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Corey Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Corey

Corey is a super friendly small Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, who we rescued from the Chula Vista shelter, which thought he was a Schnauzer. The shelter estimated his age at 1, which appeared to be accurate. He is now between 2 and 3 years old. He is about 16" tall and weighs about 18 lbs.

Cory had a fractured pelvis when we rescued him. He had surgery done and was fully healed before we placed him in 2017. Corey needs a new home now because his adopter is going into a care facility.

Corey is simply a great dog. He appears to be housebroken and he loves both people and other dogs. He seems very intelligent and loves to play. His only fault is that he can be a bit noisy when he is bored and wants to play.

Corey appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Corey was adopted on April 7, 2019.

Rescue Schnauzer Mirae

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mirae Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mirae

Mirae is a sweet 7 or 8 year old Miniature Schnauzer. She weighs 6.8 kg (15 lbs).

Mirae's family left her at a kill shelter in Seoul Korea one day. Mirae was heartbroken. She didn’t eat or sleep over a week, waiting for her family to return. Jennifer Michael, Korean rescuer extraordinaire, couldn’t let Mirae starve herself like that, so she rescued Mirae.

Mirae is healthy and now finally eating with tail wags ❤️. Jennifer asked us to take Mirae and find her a great new home. How could we say no?

Mirae loves people and other dogs. We have not had her around cats.

Mirae was adopted by a family from La Cañada, CA in March 2019. She joins 3 other dogs adopted from CMSR: Scarlett, Richie, and Sabrina.

Rescue Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen Mateo

Photo of Rescue Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen Mateo

We rescued Mateo from the Long Beach shelter. He was about a year old and very scared.

Mateo liked other dogs but was very afraid of people. We placed him with trainer extraordinaire Mark Seltzer who worked on socializing Mateo.

Mateo appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Mateo was adopted on March 3, 2019. Thanks very much to our friends at A Home 4 Ever Rescue in Costa Mesa for finding Mateo his new home.

Rescue Terrier Mix Leroy (now Billy Idol)

Photo of Rescue Terrier Misx Billy Idol

We rescued from the Downey shelter. He was very cute, but scared and snappy. He weighed about 13 lbs.

We took Leroy to our wonderful trainer, Mark Seltzer, who renamed him Billy Idol, and helped him build his self-confidence.

Billy Idol is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped.

Gambler was adopted on March 3, 2019. Thanks very much to our friends at A Home 4 Ever Rescue in Costa Mesa for finding Billy Idol his new home.

Rescue Schnauzer Bernadette

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Bernadette Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Bernadette

Bernadette is a very sweet senior Miniature Schnauzer, who we rescued from the San Diego County shelter in Bonita. The shelter estimated Bernadette's age at 10, but we and our vet think she is more likely 7 to 8 years old. Bernadette weighs about 16 lbs.

Bernadette is quiet and friendly. She gets along well with people and with other dogs. She wanted to greet all the dogs at the vet's office when we took her for a checkup and dental. We do not know how she is around cats since we don't have any cats to test her on. However, she did not react to cats in carriers at the vet's.

Bernadette has some hair loss in front of her tail. We tested her thyroid levels and they were normal. Our vet suspects that the hair loss came from a flea infestation and will grow back.

Bernadette apears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations. She is eating well.

Bernadette was adopted on February 15, 2019 by a couple from Yorba Linda who have owned Schnauzers before. She is their only dog and will have their full attention.

Rescue Schnauzer Gambler

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Bailey

We rescued Gambler in mid-December 2018. We think he is about 6 years old. He weighs about 25 lbs, but a better weight for him would be about 20 to 21 lbs.

Gambler loves to ran around with other dogs and is super friendly. He goes right into a crate on his own and snoozes or just relaxes. He walks nicely on a leash. He knows “sit” and “shake”.

Gambler appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations. We had a dental done on him.

Gambler was adopted, together with Bailey, on January 20, 2019, by a family in Napa, who had adopted from us before. Bailey and Gambler now have two human boys to play with. They also have a pet chicken. (Bailey is on the left in the photo, and Gambler on the right.)

Rescue Schnauzer Bailey

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Bailey Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Bailey

Bailey is a 4 year old salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. She weighs 17 pounds.

Bailey loves to play. She has been socialized with people, children, and other dogs since she was young. However, she has never been around cats and will bark at them if they run along the fence.

Bailey is crate trained and uses a doggie door. She loves to play but is not much for cuddling. She loves playing fetch the ball. She will bring the ball back to you and drop it. She also likes chew toys but they must be strong ones or they won’t last.

Bailey appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Bailey was adopted, together with Gambler, on January 20, 2019, by a family in Napa, who had adopted from us before. Bailey and Gambler now have two human boys to play with. They also have a pet chicken.

Rescue Schnauzer Mix Howard (now Freddy)

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer mix Howard Photo of Rescue Schnauzer mix Howard

Howard is a sweet Miniature Schnauzer mix, who we rescued from the Hesperia shelter. The shelter estimated Howard's age as 8 but we think he is more like 6 years old. He weighs about 12 lbs. He is somewhat hard of hearing.

Howard is a quiet little guy but he loves people and other dogs. We have not had him around cats.

Howard is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations. His teeth are nice and white since we just had his teeth cleaned.

Howard was adopted on January 20, 2019 by a couple from Murrieta who have adopted seniors from us before. They call him Freddy.

Rescue Schnauzer Katy

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Katy Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Katy

Katy is a very sweet 1-1/2 to 2 year old purebred Miniature Schnauzer, who we rescued from the Kern County shelter in Bakersfield. Katy weighs about 13.5 lbs. Sadly, Katy had a broken leg as a result of having been hit by a car. We were hoping to save her leg, but her leg had been amputated at the shelter. Katy is able to walk on her remaining 3 legs and is now able to keep up with the 4-legged dogs at her foster home.

Katy is a quiet but friendly girl who gets along well with people and with other dogs.. We do not know how she is around cats since we don't have any cats to test her on.

Katy is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations. She is eating well.

Katy and Robin were adopted together by a family from Phoenix, AZ on January 5, 2019, which is great as they had become close friends during their stay with CMSR. Thanks very much to Tina Baker and Valley of the Sun Giant Schnauzer Rescue for arranging their adoptions and for transporting them to Phoenix for us.

Rescue Schnauzer Mix Robin

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer mix Robin Photo of Rescue Schnauzer mix Robin

Robin is a sweet Miniature Schnauzer mix. He is about 1 year old and weighs 5.8 kg (13 lbs.).

Robin was about to be euthanized at a Korean shelter because he had heartworm. We were asked to save Robin and we said yes. We had his heartworm treated in Korea, and he has tested clear after we got him.

Robin loves people and other dogs. We have not had him around cats.

Robin is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations. We have also had his teeth cleaned.
