California Miniature
Schnauzer Rescue
—Rescued Dogs In New Homes 2018

California Miniature Schnauzer Rescue re-homed about 80 Miniature Schnauzers and other dogs during 2017. In addition, we helped pull, transport and/or vet many more dogs for out of town rescues. Most of these were dogs who were about to be euthanized if the out of town rescues had not agreed to take them.

We thank our volunteers, our fosters, our donors, and our partner rescue groups. Without their wonderful help, many of those dogs would have died instead of enjoying their lives in great new homes.

22 Dogs Adopted in 2018

Rescue Schnauzer Pottsie

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mix Pottsie

Pottsie was one of 4 Schnauzers who were surrendered to us by a breeder in Bakersfield who was no longer able to care for her dogs. They were not well socialized when we got them. Pottsie was the most scared of the 4 and took the longest to become adoptable.

Pottsie appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and current on his vaccinations.

Pottsie was adopted in July 2018 by a family from Costa Mesa. Thanks very much to Mark Seltzer of Puppy Playhouse who socialized Pottsie and found him a great new home.

Rescue Schnauzer Mitzy

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mitzy

Looking for a cuddly canine companion? Mitzi is ready to celebrate with you. Mitzi is a very affectionate girl about 8 years old.

A quiet home with a retired couple who is retired or works from home would be the ideal home for this sweet girl. Mitzi is wary at first with strangers, especially men, but once she gets acquainted and trusts you, she wants to snuggle up with you on the sofa or recliner. Mitzi sleeps quietly in a crate in her foster's bedroom, but she would much prefer to curl up next to you on the bed at night. This smart girl figured out how to use the doggie dog all by herself. Mitzi gets along with other polite dogs and might like the company when her people can't be at home with her.

When she was found as a stray in Modesto, CA she was running the streets with a male schnauzer. They were both so matted and filthy it was hard to tell which end was which. This girl has come a long way and enjoys life now that she is all cleaned up. Mitzi walks nicely on a leash too.

Mitzi's veterinary bill was $952.13 for all the work to get her back in good shape. Any contributions to help CMSR continue to help other Miniature Schnauzers in need would be much appreciated. You can make a donation in any amount via PayPal to PayPal account canada@johnhoffman.us. (Be sure to check the Friends and Family box so PayPal does not charge a fee.)

Mitzi (now Sophie) was adopted on July 14, 2018, by a lady from Walnut Creek. Thanks so much to Betsie Corwin for fostering Mitzi.

Rescue Schnauzer Jason

We rescued Jason (now Arlo) from the Gaines Street Sshelter in San Diego. The shelter asked us to take him because they were overloaded with seniors.

Jason is a black and silver Miniature Schnauzer, about 11 years old and about 22 lbs. He is a very sweet dog who loves both people and other dogs.

Jason is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations

Jason was adopted in mid July 2018. Thanks very much to Lita Giminez who helped with Jason's rescue and to Susan Licari and St. Martin's Animal Rescue for finding him a great new home.

Rescue Schnauzer Old Man/Benedict/Santiago

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Santiago

We rescued Santiago from the shelter in Bonita, south of San Diego. The shelter asked us to take him because Santiago badly needed a dental. With help from our good friend Victoria Huffman, who boarded him for a few days for us, we pulled Santiago (known as Old Man at the shelter). Holly's Garden Rescue kindly arranged their vet to do the dental at a rescue price. Lita Giminez, of Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of San Diego kindly transported Benedict (the name we gave him) to Lake Elsinore where we picked him up and took him to Bakersfield for transport to Milo Foundation in San Francisco. Milo Foundation named him Santiago.

Santiago is about 9 years old and weighs about 22 lbs. He is a very sweet dog and charmed everyone who met him. In fact, it took less than a week for Santiago to be adopted after he arrived at Milo.

Santiago is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations, and has sparkling white teeth thanks to his dental.

Santiago was adopted in early July 2018. Thanks very much to everyone who helped with Santiago's rescue and especially to Milo Foundation for finding him a great new home.

Daisy (left photo) and Dilly (right photo) are adorable purebred miniatures schnauzers who are looking for a new home.

They are both house trained but might need some watching and reminding for a while in a new home. Dilly, the black and silver, is 9 years young. She is a little shy and nervous with strangers, but very loving once she gets to know you. Daisy, the salt and pepper, is 5 years old and more outgoing. These girls prefer a quiet adult home with no small children.

Dilly and Daisy have lived all their lives together and they want to stay together.

Both are spayed, microchipped, current on vaccinations.

Dilly and Daisy were adopted in mid-June 2018 by a retired lady in Castro Valley, who is a long time schnauzer owner. They will join one other senior dog in their new home in Manteca, CA.

Rescue Schnauzer Mix Markus

We rescued Markus from the Moreno Valley shelter. Markus is about 2 years old and weighs about 15 lbs.

Markus likes most other dogs. He can go to a home with another friendly dog, but would likely be best in a quiet home without children.

Markus appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and current on his vaccinations.

Markus was adopted on June 9, 2018 by a family from Costa Mesa. Thanks very much to Mark Seltzer of Puppy Playhouse who socialized Markus and found him a great new home.

We rescued Brittany from the Bonita shelter in southern San Diego County. She is about 7 years old and weighs about 20 lbs.

Brittany was very frightened of people when we got her, but never snappy or aggressive. She gets along well with other dogs. Brittany is doing well at her new home, and her adopters are devoted to working with her to turn her into the happy dog who is hidden under the fear.

Brittany is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

Brittany was adopted on April 14, 2018 by a family from Placerville. She joins a 7 year old Miniature Schnauzer named Gus. Gus welcomes Brittany as he has been lonely since his prior companion passed away.

Rescue Terrier Simon

Simon is a sweet but timid dog. He is about 4 years old and weighs about 25 lbs.

Simon enjoys playing with other dogs. He is not at all aggressive. He was very scared of strangers when we got him, but he is getting more trusting. However, he needs to be adopted by someone who is willing to work with him and can spend more time with him than we are able to do.

Simon appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

Simon was adopted on March 25, 2018 by a family from Aliso Viejo. He joins Cassie, their 1.5 year old terrier mix, who is a tripawd. Cassie and Simon seemed to have hit it off together.

Rescue Schnauzer Mix Kaelynn

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mix Kaelynn Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mix Kaelynn

Kaelynn hails from the island of Jeju, far south of the South Korea mainland. Kaelynn was at a shelter there since last November. We were told she would soon be euthanized if we did not rescue her since no-one had claimed her. Kaelynn is about a year old, weighs 5.8 kgs (about 13 lbs).

Kaelynn does great with other dogs and loves people.

Kaelynn is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Watson

We rescued Watson from the San Bernardino County shelter. The shelter estimated his age as 7, but we think he may be more like 5 to 6. He weighs about 20 lbs. He has cropped ears and a docked tail.

Watson reportedly bit someone before coming in to the shelter, but has been nice since he came to us and he gets along well with other dogs.

Watson appears to be in good health. He is neutered and current on vaccinations. He will be microchipped before placement.

Watson was adopted in March 2018.

Rescue Schnauzer Mix Boris

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mix Boris Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mix Boris

Boris came to us from our friends at ARF in Fresno. Boris is a friendly little guy but he was terrified with the large number of dogs at ARF, many of whom were much bigger than Boris.

Boris is about 2 years old and weighs about 13 lbs.

Boris appears to be a quiet, easy going dog. He likes people and other dogs. Boris needs some socialization to gain his self-confidence, but he is generally a happy little guy.

Boris appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and current on his vaccinations.

Boris was adopted in March 2018.

Rescue Schnoodle Teddy

Photo of Rescue Dog Teddy Photo of Rescue Dog Teddy

Teddy is a super nice Poodle/Schnauzer mix who we rescued from the Lancaster shelter with a broken hip. The shelter estimated his age at 5 but we think he is more like 3 or 4. He weighs about 20 lbs and is a bit taller than a typical Miniature Schnauzer.

Teddy is a super sweet dog. He loves people and other dogs. He appears to be housebroken. He is a quiet guy who likes to cuddle and to play quietly. His hip is healed but he is still limping somewhat. His surgeon says he is fine and just needs exercise to develop more strength in his leg.

Teddy appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

Teddy was adopted on Feburary 26, 2018 by a retired lady from Simi Valley.

DeeDee is super friendly, likes other dogs, and appears to be good with children. She is proof that good things do come in small packages.

DeeDee appears to be in good health, but had a couple of seizures in late January 2018. She has been on phenobarbital since then and has not had any seizures since starting the medication. DeeDee is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

DeeDee was adopted on February 24, 2018 by a family from Rescue, California, who have a 10 year old male Miniature Schnauzer named Marley. We expect Marley will welcome DeeDee to share his life.

Rescue Miniature Schnauzer Mix Rudolph

Photo of Rescue Miniature Schnauzer Mix Rudolph Photo of Rescue Miniature Schnauzer Mix Rudolph

Our friends at Hope for Paws rescued Rudolph and asked us to help find him a great new home. Poor Rudoph had been adopted from the West Valley shelter in Chatsworth and was neutered before release. His new owners let the surgery site become infected and then returned him to the shelter from which Hope for Paws rescued him. We picked Rudolph up from Hope for Paws' veterinarian's office and made sure he healed properly this time.

The shelter aged Rudolph as about 4 years old, but he looks younger to us. He weighs about 17 lbs.

Rudolph looks much like a Schnauzer but is a little taller and racier than a typical Schnauzer. Rudolph is fairly high energy. He loves playing with people and with other dogs.

Rudolph appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and current on vaccinations.

Rudolph was adopted on Feburary 24, 2018 by a family from San Francisco. He will get lots of love from his new family who adore him.

We rescued Brenda from the Baldwin Park shelter. She had a fractured humerous (bone in the upper front leg), which has been repaired with surgery. Brenda is about 1 year old. She weighs about 17 lbs.

Brenda appears to be a Schnoodle, i.e., part Schnauzer, part Poodle. Brenda loves playing with people and with other dogs. She probably loves almost everything that moves. And she wants to play with all of them.

While Brenda loves being patted, she is head shy about foreign objects around her head. We had to tranquillize her a bit to groom her head.

Brenda appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations.

Brenda was adopted on January 21, 2018 by a family from Windsor, who are prior adopters from CMSR and who have a male Schnauzer with whom Brenda can play.
