California Miniature
Schnauzer Rescue
—Rescued Dogs In New Homes 2018

California Miniature Schnauzer Rescue re-homed about 80 Miniature Schnauzers and other dogs during 2017. In addition, we helped pull, transport and/or vet many more dogs for out of town rescues. Most of these were dogs who were about to be euthanized if the out of town rescues had not agreed to take them.

We thank our volunteers, our fosters, our donors, and our partner rescue groups. Without their wonderful help, many of those dogs would have died instead of enjoying their lives in great new homes.

31 Dogs Adopted in 2018

Rescue Schnauzer Kellan

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Kellan Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Kellan

Kellan is a very sweet 4 year old Miniature Schnauzer, who came to us from Korea. In fact, his rescuers in Korea called him Sugar.

Kellan loves people and other dogs. We do not know how he is around cats since we don't have any cats.

Kellan is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations. His teeth are nice and white since we just had his teeth cleaned.

Kellan was adopted on December 26, 2018 by a family from Calabasas. He joins a female Beagle and the couple’s young son.

Rescue Schnauzer Millie

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Millie Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Millie

Millie is a very sweet, exuberantly affectionate, purebred Miniature Schnauzer, who we rescued from the San Diego Bonita shelter. She is small. She weighs about 10 lbs. The shelter estimated Millie's age as 5, but we think she is about 2. She looks and acts very puppyish.

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Millie

Millie had a broken pelvis when we got her. It has healed and she is running and playing now as though she had never been injured. Here is what Millie looked like when we got her. Can you believe it is the same dog as the gorgeous girl pictured above?

Millie loves people and other dogs. We do not know how she is around cats since we don't have any cats.

Millie is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations. Her teeth are nice and white.

Millie was adopted on December 15, 2018 by a couple from Rescue, CA. Millie joins DeeDee (now Stella) who was adopted earlier this year by Millie's adoptors. We hope the two girls will have many happy years together in their new home.

Rescue Schnauzer Mitzi

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mitzi Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mitzi

Hi, my name is Mitzi the Mini! I was rescued from a puppy mill in China while pregnant. I delivered my 5 pups after I was rescued. A month later, I was transported to the USA with one of my rescue mates in search of loving homes.

I was emaciated when I arrived in California, but I am bulking up quickly.

I may have a cataract in my right eye (probably due to malnutrition), but I don’ve lived most of my life in a rabbit cage, but once my feet toughen up, I should be fine. I am working on my potty-training. I go to the backdoor when I neet let it stop me. I run around like a banshee anyway. I love to play and wrestle with the other dogs at my foster home, but mostly we love to snuggle together. I am a very confident and loving little gal. I want love, kisses and attention from everyone. If I’m not getting enough attention, I’ll paw gently at you to let you know. I’m very aware of what’s going on in and outside the house and I like to let everyone know if something strange is going on. My barker is broken though and my bark sounds like a hoarse whisper instead of a loud bark.

I like walking on a leash to the park where I like to sniff and prance around. I even do well off-leash at the park and I come back quickly when called. My paws are very sensitive outside because I’ve lived most of my life in a rabbit cage, but once my feet toughen up, I should be fine.

I have stolen the hearts of everyone in my foster home. I am working on my potty-training. I go to the backdoor when I need to go potty.

My 5 puppies (2 Males and 3 Females—all Black/Tan) are looking for homes in the U.S. as are two more Salt/Pepper rescue mates. I would love to be adopted along with one of my mates, if possible. If not, I would prefer to be adopted into a home with another dog because I’ve lived most of my life with other dogs and would be sad without a pal.

My adoption fee is $500 to cover the costs of my care in China, including vet fees, and the costs of my transportation to the U.S. My foster needs to recover at least part of what she has spent on me in order to help cover the costs of bringing one or more of my puppies to the U.S.

I am spayed and I am current on vaccinations. I neeve received a full health check and I was treated for an ear infection.

Mitzi was adopted in mid-December 2018 by a retired couple from Lincoln, CA, who saw her on this website. Thanks so much to Erin Easter for rescuing Mitzi from China and fostering her.

Rescue Schnauzer Finnly

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Finnly Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Finnly Finnly is 1 year old white male Miniature Schnauzer. Finnly has a cropped tail and natural ears. He weighs about 25 lb.

Finnly is a very mellow natured playful boy. He is housebroken and uses a dog door. He gets along with all dogs and people. He would prefer an active family or another dog to play with.

Finnly appears to be in good health. He is neutered and up to date on vaccinations

Finnly was adopted around December 12, 2018 by a physican from Santa Cruz who saw Finnly on this website. Thanks so much to Lita Giminez of Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of San Diego for rescuing Finnly.

Rescue Schnauzer Killian

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Killian Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Killian

Hi! My name is Killian. I am a Miniature Schnauzer. I weigh about 20 lbs. I am about 7 1/2 years old. I am taller than most Miniatures but smaller than a Standard.

About 4 years ago, my leg was broken. I ended up in a shelter, but a great rescue took me in. For a while, I lived with my Foster Mom and lots of foster puppies coming and going all the time.

In my foster home, I played with all the dogs and puppies (77 lbs. to 5 lbs.). I loved lying on the grass under the tree in the backyard, but my favorite place to lie is close to my human. I do pretty darn well on leash now. I know how the use the doggy door and had only had one mistake in my foster’s house

I was adopted in August 2017 by a gentleman from Sacramento. Unfortunately, recently his health became such that he can no longer care for me any more. So, I am back at my foster’s, looking for a new home.

I am pretty well socialized. I like my crate and go into it as soon as someone says it is bedtime.

I know “sit” and if there is a treat involved, you do not even have to tell me to sit. I am a little bit good at “stay” but not perfect. I am quiet except when I see other dogs I do not know, I get excited because I want to play with them.

I seem to be in good health. I am neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and tested heartworm negative.

Killian was adopted on December 8, 2018 by an experienced Schnauzer owner in the Sacramento area.

Rescue Schnauzer Henry

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Henry Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Henry

Henry is a nice salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer who we rescued from the Inland Valley shelter in Pomona. He weighs about 15 lbs. We think he is about 7 years old He has natural ears and a docked tail.

Henry is friendly and gets along well with other dogs. However, Henry is very afraid of clippers and thus is difficult to groom.

Henry appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

Henry was adopted in early November 2018. Thanks very much to our friends at A Home 4 Ever Rescue in Costa Mesa for finding Henry his new home.

Rescue Schnauzer Callie

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Callie Callie is a 1 year old female Miniature Schnauzer who needs a new home. She has cropped ears and a docked tail.

Callie is friendly with people she knows. She growls a little and is stand offish when she meets new people, but warms up to them quickly. She gets along with older children but does not like the current owner’s loud and hyper 5 year old child. Callie also does not like the other female dog in the home. Callie tries to play with the owner’s cats but she starts to get rough with them and as a result they do not like her. As a result, Callie would likely be best in a home without small children and without another female dog.

Callie appears to be in good health. She is up to date on vaccinations and will be spayed before placement.

Callie, now named Katie, was adopted by a couple from Indio in late October 2018. Katie will have their full attention since she will be their only pet.

Rescue Schnauzer Boomer

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mix Boomer Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mix Boomer

Boomer is a remarkably upbeat and friendly Miniature Schnauzer mix who we rescued from the Los Angeles East Valley shelter in Van Nuys. Boomer had been hit by a car. He had no broken bones, but he suffered a spinal injury that left his hindquarters paralyzed.

After having had a CT scan done on Boomer, which showed he had a small disc compression in his spine just in front of his tail, we took Boomer for physical therapy, including acupuncture, range of motion exercises, water therapy, etc., at 2 Hands 4 Paws, a leading canine rehabilitative therapy clinic in Los Angeles.

Boomer has made remarkable progress. He was unable to stand up when we first got him. He can now stand up, walk and run, albeit rather unsteadily. He has also regained the ability to urinate on his own, though he needs to be expressed to finish emptying his bladder. He also does not have full control over defecating, though he manages to keep himself clean if he is taken out every 4 hours or so.

Boomer loves people and other dogs. His remarkable progress is due in large part to his indomitable spirit and his desire to accompany anyone, human or canine, who crosses his path. The folks at 2 Hands 4 Paws expect Boomer to continue to make progress, though they cannot say what the endpoint of his recovery will be, or when it will happen.

You can see a couple of video of wonderful Boomer shot on 8/17/2018 at https://vimeo.com/285675531 and https://vimeo.com/285675918.

Boomer is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations.

Boomer was adopted on September 15, 2018 by a lady from West Los Angeles who plans to keep taking Boomer for therapy. He joins 2 other dogs with whom he is already beginning a close relationship.

Rescue Terrier Mix Tanto

Photo of Rescue Terrier Mix Tanto Photo of Rescue Terrier Mix Tanto

We rescued Tanto from the Corona shelter where he was taken when his owner died. Tanto is about 6 years old and weighs about 18 lbs.

We currently have Tanto with a trainer who has a record of success in socializing frightened dogs. Tanto gets along with other dogs. He can go to a home with another friendly dog, but would likely be best in a quiet home without children.

Tanto appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and current on his vaccinations.

Tanto was adopted on Labor Day weekend. Thanks very much to our friends at A Home 4 Ever Rescue in Costa Mesa for finding Tanto a great new home.

Rescue Schnauzer Pottsie

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mix Pottsie

Pottsie was one of 4 Schnauzers who were surrendered to us by a breeder in Bakersfield who was no longer able to care for her dogs. They were not well socialized when we got them. Pottsie was the most scared of the 4 and took the longest to become adoptable.

Pottsie appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and current on his vaccinations.

Pottsie was adopted in July 2018 by a family from Costa Mesa. Thanks very much to Mark Seltzer of Puppy Playhouse who socialized Pottsie and found him a great new home.

Rescue Schnauzer Mitzy

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Mitzy

Looking for a cuddly canine companion? Mitzi is ready to celebrate with you. Mitzi is a very affectionate girl about 8 years old.

A quiet home with a retired couple who is retired or works from home would be the ideal home for this sweet girl. Mitzi is wary at first with strangers, especially men, but once she gets acquainted and trusts you, she wants to snuggle up with you on the sofa or recliner. Mitzi sleeps quietly in a crate in her foster's bedroom, but she would much prefer to curl up next to you on the bed at night. This smart girl figured out how to use the doggie dog all by herself. Mitzi gets along with other polite dogs and might like the company when her people can't be at home with her.

When she was found as a stray in Modesto, CA she was running the streets with a male schnauzer. They were both so matted and filthy it was hard to tell which end was which. This girl has come a long way and enjoys life now that she is all cleaned up. Mitzi walks nicely on a leash too.

Mitzi's veterinary bill was $952.13 for all the work to get her back in good shape. Any contributions to help CMSR continue to help other Miniature Schnauzers in need would be much appreciated. You can make a donation in any amount via PayPal to PayPal account canada@johnhoffman.us. (Be sure to check the Friends and Family box so PayPal does not charge a fee.)

Mitzi (now Sophie) was adopted on July 14, 2018, by a lady from Walnut Creek. Thanks so much to Betsie Corwin for fostering Mitzi.

Rescue Schnauzer Old Man/Benedict/Santiago

Photo of Rescue Schnauzer Santiago

We rescued Santiago from the shelter in Bonita, south of San Diego. The shelter asked us to take him because Santiago badly needed a dental. With help from our good friend Victoria Huffman, who boarded him for a few days for us, we pulled Santiago (known as Old Man at the shelter). Holly's Garden Rescue kindly arranged their vet to do the dental at a rescue price. Lita Giminez, of Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of San Diego kindly transported Benedict (the name we gave him) to Lake Elsinore where we picked him up and took him to Bakersfield for transport to Milo Foundation in San Francisco. Milo Foundation named him Santiago.

Santiago is about 9 years old and weighs about 22 lbs. He is a very sweet dog and charmed everyone who met him. In fact, it took less than a week for Santiago to be adopted after he arrived at Milo.

Santiago is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations, and has sparkling white teeth thanks to his dental.

Santiago was adopted in early July 2018. Thanks very much to everyone who helped with Santiago's rescue and especially to Milo Foundation for finding him a great new home.

Daisy (left photo) and Dilly (right photo) are adorable purebred miniatures schnauzers who are looking for a new home.

They are both house trained but might need some watching and reminding for a while in a new home. Dilly, the black and silver, is 9 years young. She is a little shy and nervous with strangers, but very loving once she gets to know you. Daisy, the salt and pepper, is 5 years old and more outgoing. These girls prefer a quiet adult home with no small children.

Dilly and Daisy have lived all their lives together and they want to stay together.

Both are spayed, microchipped, current on vaccinations.

Simon appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

Simon was adopted on March 25, 2018 by a family from Aliso Viejo. He joins Cassie, their 1.5 year old terrier mix, who is a tripawd. Cassie and Simon seemed to have hit it off together.

The shelter aged Rudolph as about 4 years old, but he looks younger to us. He weighs about 17 lbs.
