California Miniature
Schnauzer Rescue
—Rescued Dogs In New Homes 2025
California Miniature Schnauzer Rescue re-homed about 16 Miniature Schnauzers and other dogs during 2024.
In addition, CMSR helped pull, transport and/or vet many dogs for out of town rescues. Most of these were dogs who were about to be euthanized if the out of town rescues had not agreed to take them. CMSR also helped fund the expenses for some Schnauzers and other dogs who were rescued by other rescues, whose expenses the rescues could not have afforded without CMSR's help.
We thank our volunteers, our fosters, our donors, and our partner rescue groups. Without their wonderful help, many of those dogs would have died instead of enjoying their lives in great new homes.

Rescue Schnauzer Mix Snickers

Snickers came to our rescue from the Riverside County - San Jacinto shelter in southern California.
Snickers was a spayed 14 lb, 3- to 4-year-old Miniature Schnauzer mix who was brought in as a stray on March 13, 2025. Snickers had been exposed to Parvovirus at the shelter on March 21 and was listed as “at risk”. While in foster care, Snickers became fully vaccinated and tested negative for Parvovirus.
Snickers was a mix of perhaps Dachshund or another short-legged breed as she was a “low rider” little girl, with a long and very flexible tail that curled over her long back.
Snickers was easy to bathe and groom and had a calm disposition. She slept quietly all night in her crate or doggie bed and seemed to be housebroken. She was more comfortable with women than men, however warmed up to each person given a little time. She walked well on a leash and seemed very interested in everything in her new world.
Snickers loved playing with her squeaky toys by herself or was happy to play fetch, easily giving up the toy. Snickers enjoyed laying in the sun. She was always very quiet when people appeared close to the house on the street, and she never barked at cars or delivery trucks driving past.
Snickers was adopted on April 18, 2025 by a woman named Julie who lives in Pittsburg, California.
Rescue Chihuahua Nora

Nora is an ultra cute black and tan Chihuahua. We joke that Nora's mother was a German Shepherd and that her father was the world's bravest Chihuahua.
We rescued Nora from the San Bernardino City shelter, which was threatening to euthanize Nora if she wasn't rescued because she had a fractured iliac, which needed plating. Nora also had damage to her hip joint which required a femoral head osteotomy (FHO). Nora is now able to run around and play. She still limps a little but her surgeon thinks that the limp will disappear as Nora strengthens her hind leg muscles.
Nora is about 2 years old. She weighs about 7 lbs.
Nora is a bit hesitant around strangers, but affectionate once she gets to know someone. She enjoys playing with other dogs so long as they are not rough with her. Given Nora's small size, we will not place Nora in a home with children too young to understand that they need to be gentle with her.
Nora appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations. Nora still limps a little, but that should improve as her muscle strength improves.
Nora was adopted in February 2025. Thanks very much to our friends at 4 Paws Kiddo Rescue for fostering Nora and finding her a great new home.
Rescue Miniature Schnauzer Marty

Marty is a very sweet about 10 year old salt & pepper, male Miniature Schnauzer. He is a big boy, weighing in at about 24 lbs. We rescued Marty from the Los Angeles City East Valley shelter in Van Nuys.
Marty is a quiet little guy who loves people and other dogs.
Marty appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and current on vaccinations. He recently had a dental. His one health problem is chronically infected ears. He will need ongoing ear medications.
Marty was adopted on January 19, 2025 by a lady from Port Hueneme who has owned Schnauzers before. Marty and she have quickly become close companions.
